The Microsoft® DirectShow® application programming interface is a media-streaming architecture for the Microsoft Windows® platform. Using DirectShow, your applications can perform high-quality video and audio playback or capture.
The DirectShow components are not included in the April 2005 and later DirectX SDKs at all. As of the October 2004 Update, the DirectShow components are in the DirectX Extras download and there is a separate CHM file in that download with the DirectShow SDK documentation.
